  • VITA Program Sign Up

    VITA – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
    Preparer Volunteer

    Purpose: To help low to moderate income families receive free tax preparation.

    Time Commitment: January – End of tax season – includes trainings
    Site Volunteers are needed to commit to availability of 50% of the tax season- approximately 8 or more sessions (16 hours)
    Virtual drop-off volunteers are needed to commit to approximately 16 to 20 completed returns at your convenience

    Responsibilities/Duties:
    • Attend required annual tax training
    • Complete IRS on site certification program
    • Volunteer agrees to schedule availability in advance with VITA Program Officer
    • Interview customer to determine if all income, deductions and allowable credits are claimed
    • Prepare tax returns
    • Virtual drop-off volunteers will need to work independently and requires prior tax preparation experience.
    • Assist with set-up and tear-down of computers and printers, as needed

    • Ability to relate to people in a positive and nonjudgmental manner
    • Must maintain client confidentiality
    • Ability to be detailed oriented and record information
    • Ability to pass a training program
    • Assist with set-up and tear-down of computers and printers, as needed

    Training/Required Certification: Initial VITA Program overview meeting, Classroom training or self-study through Link and Learn and a passing score of 80% on the exam. Training is provided by IRS and VITA

    Volunteers should be between the ages of 18 and 90.
